The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services falls under the Ministry of Homeland Security of the Republic of Malawi. It is mandated to provide quality services to the general public in areas of border control, issuance of travel documents, residential and work permits, Visas and Citizenship to eligible persons.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services (DoICS) is looking forward to fully digitize its operations by October 2020 and as part of digitization initiatives from January 2020, replacing the Machine Readable passports (MRPs) currently in use with electronic passports (e-passports). The Malawi e-passports have improved security features in line with global standards.
